Tomorrow's Gas At Today's Prices?

There's a new company in town at MyGallons.com that will allow you to purchase gas at today's current price for use tomorrow, hedging your bet on the cost of oil rising in the future. Looks like they charge a $30 membership fee, so it's value to you will depend on the amount of gas you use and how much gas goes up (it will, right?). It also looks like they're in the middle of scrambling for a new reselling partner to offer this core business to you. Perhaps keep your eye on this, but it might not make sense to consider signing up until they have a way to offer what they're selling.

I like the idea of saving money regarding gas. I am curious to know what the author of this blog drives. Have you driven any of the new hybrids out?

Hey "Holden"! Thanks for your comment. I'll assume from your site that Holden is a pen name?

I've proudly driven a 03 Focus ZX3 for almost 6 years now. Just about at 100K miles and it's still working surprisingly great.

I've tested a couple hybrids over the years:

1. Honda Civic hybrid (about 6 years ago)- It was crap. It could not run on battery power alone and thus left me waiting for the engine to restart after trying to take off from a stop light.

2. Toyota Prius (current model year)- I'm 6'5" and was excited by the head room. Unfortunately, the leg room left A LOT to be desired and left me so squished that I won't be considering this car for my next purchase.

3. Mercury Mariner (1-2 years ago). I didn't drive in this, but rode in it. I was impressed with the space, design, features, overall feel. I'd have to drive it, but I liked what I saw from the passenger's perspective.

I have a couple of vehicles, but mostly drive a beater so I don't have to worry about dents and dings. The beater probably averages around 20 mpg--not very efficient. Thinking about getting a hybrid next, but wanted to hear what others thought.
